At least (33) thirty-three Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Records officers on Thursday completed three-day training on Records Management.
The training was held at the GCAA training hall at the Banjul International Airport.
Speaking shortly after the closing ceremony of the training, the director of National Records Service (NRS), Bartholomew Marong said it is part of his institution’s mandate to train public officers on Records Management.
According to Mr. Marong, it is National Records Service’s responsibility also to ensure good record-keeping practices in the public service and other institutions.
In July 1990, he said, the Gambia Government funded a small-scale project in cooperation with Overseas Records Management Trust (ORMT) now International Records Management Trust (IRMT) to restructure the registry in the Office of the President as a model from which to draw lessons of best practice for the civil service.
“In the financial year 1990-1991, records management became a component of the UK Overseas Development Administration (ODA) Administrative Reform Program (ARP) and a records management project subsequently set up early 1990 at Personnel Management Office to underpin the ARP,” Mr. Marong explained.
Addressing the participants, the Human Resource Director at Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Fatou Jobarteh-Jallow expressed appreciation to the management of NRS especially the NRS facilitators for the successful conduct of the training.
Madam Jobarteh-Jallow described the training as on time while adding that the training will improve the work of records officers under her institution.
“Now that you went through tough training on records management for the past three days, I think you will continue to deliver to the best of your ability in your work. I appreciated your punctuality during the training period,” said Madam Jobarteh-Jallow.
She explained to the records officers that the new knowledge they gained during the training must reflect in their work and thus will determine their future capacity buildings.
At the end of the training, each participant went home with a certificate.
