The Aron Charter team Saturday, 3rd September 2022 embarked on a tree planting exercise at Bijilo Beach to fight against climate and environmental degradation.

Speaking to this medium, Abie Rachel Ogoh Nyassi, the founder of the Aron Charter organisation said the organisation was formed to fight against climate change and environmental degradation. And it is also, to empower women into leadership roles in Africa, and fight against poverty in Africa.

She pointed out that the purpose of the tree planting exercise was to promote a healthy and safe environment, protect the ecosystem, minimize erosion, especially on the beach side and keep the beachside beautiful with the trees around.

Ms Nyassi outlined some of the importance of trees saying they help to combat global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide while releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees also reduce wind speeds and cool air as they lose moisture and reflect heat upwards from their leaves.

She said It is estimated that trees can reduce the temperature in a city by up to 7oc, while other environmental benefit includes; preventing flooding and soil erosion by absorbing thousands of liters of stormwater.

She sends her heartfelt gratitude to all that have made the tree planting exercise successful and for taking their time and resources to make it possible.

In an extension, she thanked Messrs Badjie, Ismaila Nyassi the CEO of Himfirm for giving them the support, and Muhammad Hydara of The Gambia Environmental Alliance who had served as their technical adviser during the tree planting activity.
