MC rate Jammeh over Barrow in terms of security

Momdou MC Cham Jnr, youth president of Gambia Democratic Congress has rated exiled former President Yahya Jammeh over President Adama Barrow in terms of strengthening the country’s security.

“Jammeh had one legacy which no one take from him that’s the security of the country, he didn’t joke with the security of the country, but Adama Barrow’s government downplays security in the country because they are not doing enough about security.  Even if you ask kids, they will tell you that in Jammeh era people did sleep peacefully and the flow of the illicit drugs was not at this rate,” he said.

He however commended the Police for their efforts in tackling crimes and criminality in the country and called on the government to give more supports to the security of the country.

“However, I will commend the Police because they are doing efforts in tackling crimes. They only need more support from the government because if you can remember, during the last presidential election, Police IG gave police guards to all political party leaders which helped the parties to control their crowds. I think the Justice Minister and AG chamber should also help us amend the laws to ensure criminals are not easily granted bail if they come out of jail, they can be good people in the society,” he added.

“Even if there is security reform and you don’t empower the security men and women it has no benefit. The government is not empowering the security.  Look at when they are patrolling at night, they don’t have enough vehicles to do their jobs. Even financially like to increase their risk allowance. The Gambia’s problem is tribalism, giving someone a position base on tribe and tribalism is destroying the country. I believe the drug squad and the SIS should do their jobs but I don’t know what is the job of the SIS in this country because the crime rate is increasing and they should be able to give information and avert some of the crimes happening. And the drug use in increasing in the country,” he explained.
