Gambia Government aim is to have vibrant Civil Service

 Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) for Programs and Policies (P&P) at the Personnel Management Office (PMO) assure Civil Servants that it is Gambia Government’s desire to have vibrant Civil Service in terms of remuneration and professionalism.

DPS Musa Cham disclosed this in an interview held in his office on Thursday as he also talked about various issues that are of concern to the public especially the civil Servants.

According to DPS Cham, PMO/PSC through the Office of the Vice President will ensure that civil service is effective and efficient in its service delivery in order to attain government development goals.

He appealed to civil servants to be patient in the system adding that sooner or later everything will be fine for them, while stating that it is the desire of the Government to have better civil service.

He appealed to all civil servants irrespective of their portfolios to respect their work, diligent, dedicated and change attitude towards their works if they want Gambia as a nation to move into higher heights.

Shedding light on the main function of the PMO, Cham said the office is responsible for staff inspection and organizational methodology, training of the entire civil service, manpower budgeting and control, review and implementation of regulatory frameworks (General Order (GO), PSC Regulations, Code of conduct, and  Pension Policy and Administration.

Formulation and review scheme of service that outlines career pave which clearly define deference cadres within civil service and to ensure standard of recruitments, qualification among others. And PMO also serves as Human Resource (HR) office for government civil service.

Added, “PMO therefore serves as the principal adviser to Public Service Commission (PSC) or to the Vice President who tables civil service matters in cabinet. The Public Service Act 1991 clearly explains the mandate of both PMO/PSC.”
