GTU promises to address uproar over new pay scale

The Gambia Teachers Union has promised to address the dissatisfaction of teachers over the recent pay scale issued by the government on 23rd December 2021.

However, the latest increment of salaries is causing uproar among government civil servants especially a group of young teachers who expressed their dissatisfaction over the new pay scale on social media. The group urged its members to bear patience as they engage the relevant stakeholders to address the matter at hand.

The management of the Gambia Teachers Union (GTU) in a statement issued stated that: “it has noted with concern, the current debates and opinions surrounding the proposal new integrated pay scale for civil servant.”

It also said that it is important to note that the observations coming from the various teacher platforms are genuine and noteworthy.

“The leadership of the union wishes to inform all teachers that the GTU Secretariat is currently reviewing the proposed pay scale and the report to tease out critical issues for analyses and necessary action,” the statement said, and wished to thank all teachers for demonstrating confidence in their union.

Meanwhile, the union wishes to assure all teachers that the relevant stakeholders will be consulted with a view to addressing any gaps in the proposed pay scale. More so, the union also urged all teachers to remain calm and allow the leadership to engage meaningfully to resolve this matter soonest.
