Jammeh-Jeng registers interest in upcoming parliamentary election

Fatoumatta Jammeh-Jeng, who announced her intention to run for parliamentary election in 2022 in the Serrekunda constituency, has said her priority area is to address insecurity.

Speaking to The Voice exclusively, she said: “one of her key priorities in the areas of development is security, “I realize that there are a lot of issues in Serrekunda like security issues, theft due to lack of security especially around the Farokonos.”

“Most of those crimes are committed at night because they take advantage of the darkness. If I am a member of parliament there will be street lights all over to make the places bright and also make sure there are random security patrols because we have a lot of rape cases in Serre-Kunda central,” she explained.

To do that, “I’m going to advocate, communicate to people also having seminars that are going to involve the youth and educate them on how to prevent themselves,” she said.

According to her, the living standard is a concern and she said she is going to address it and by encouraging skills works to close gap unemployment gap which she believes will boost the economy and make the economy flow within the community.

“This is not me standing as a parliamentarian I want to go in for to support both women, youth, and men so I, therefore, encourage everyone out there to come out in their numbers not just to support me but to show interest in the governing system of the country,” she said.

More so, she called on other women to come out and contest for the parliamentary seats in their constituencies in the upcoming elections due in April 2022.

“I am encouraging everyone and every other women out there that has the interest to come forward and be part of this race, let them come out and I am hundred percent sure that they will have support because this is what we need,” she said.

She commended Gambians especially Honorable Halifa Sallah and Omar A Jallow alias OJ, “they need leaders like them to encourage and educate people. They come out for the sake of the love they have for the country.”

Mrs. Jammeh Jeng went to SOS Harman Gmeiner Technical Senior Secondary School, after her O’level she went to University of the Gambia and finally graduated at Maritime University in Ghana with a Bachelor’s of Science in Logistic Management. She is also a member of Young African Leadership Initiative as well as the Africa Maritime Women Association, Co-founder of Gambia First also the CEO of Single Mothers Scheme.
