KMC launches D6m project

Kanifing Municipal Council has launched D6 million projects which aimed to reduce amount of biodegradable waste that gets disposed at the Bakoteh dumpsite and to help women transform them into soil conditioners.

According to the Council “Mayor Ahamad Talib Bensouda Monday presided over the launching of another life impacting project for the people of the Kanifing Municipality. The project “Building Climate Resilience through Sustainable Biodegradable Waste Management in Kanifing Municipality” is one aimed at reducing the amount of biodegradable waste that gets disposed at the Bakoteh dumpsite and to help women transform them into soil conditioners.”

“This innovative environmentally sustainable project proposes to use biodegradable waste from markets in KM to make organic fertilizer for women in vegetable gardening and also in making briquettes for cooking as a means of saving the many trees that get cut down from our forests. Valued at D6 million, the KMC is partnering with waste Aid UK and Women initiative Gambia (WIG) with support from the E.U to give assistance to women in Abuko and Bakau women’s gardens as the pilot of this project that is expected to run within a span of one year,” the Council stated.

More so, “as part of his ongoing visit, County Executive Matthew Meyer of Newcastle County, Delaware USA signs a proclamation declaring July 8th as Kanifing Municipal Council Day in Newcastle County, Delaware.After a brief tour to our GIS unit where CE Meyer was introduced to our new GIS systems coming up, a courtesy calls on the Ministry of regional governments was also made by Meyer and delegation.

“At the closing press conference, both KMC and NCC heads committed to strengthening the bond between the people of KM and Newcastle County and pledge to work together in all areas of development.”
