BAC Gets Multimillion Dalasi Office

Brikama Area Council (BAC) has inaugurated its new office complex worth D21million which its officials described as one of the council’s seven targeted priorities.

The multimillion dalasis office was implemented by the Gambia Agency for Management of Public Works GAMWORKS with counterpart contributes of D8, 878, 756.16 from Brikama Area Council

Sheriffo Sonko, Chief Executive Officer of BAC described the launching of the office complex as a “history making, timely and important.”

“The Covid-19 Pandemic led to the delay of the completion of this project. The project would not be possible without the bearing of the community of WCR by paying their taxes on time, because council cannot be working without anything collected from the community,” he said.

He thanked the government-led by President Adama Barrow and the National Assembly who have one way or the other contributed to the possible implementation of this project.

Meanwhile, the Governor of West Coast Region, Lamin Sanneh, said staff motivation and staff moral are always part of this type of project launched today.

“Because when staff  are in a conductive environment it will boost their moral and try to ensure services delivery will be timely and increase production,” he said.

He commended the BAC, GAMWORKS Agency, and government of the Gambia for taking this laudable step to ensure that this building done to increase services delivery.

He noted that development cannot be done in Isolation; it has to be done in partnership. The building he noted is here to boost our moral and give us support by making tax payment for the community easily.

He challenged everyone to see the project as theirs, the building belongs to every person in WCR especially the tax payers from Kalagi to Kartong, noting that maintenance is very key.

Adama Bojang, director of planning at BAC, said: “the projects are implemented by the Gambia Agency for Management of Public Works, in the West Coast Region with counterpart contribute of D8, 878, 756.16 from BAC.”

“In addition to improve productivity, this new office complex will in no small measure contribute to the value of the council. It will provide the right platform to increase social interaction for employees and there by facilitate rapid professional growth,” she added.

She thanked GAMWORKS for their continuous support to councils across the country to realize their infrastructural Developments.

Also speaking at the forum was the Director of GAMWORKS, Omar Hai. He said the contractor of the project was Kurubally Construction, which started since 2015, at an amount of D21 million and there are over 40 offices, two conference rooms an assembly hall among other facilities in the building.

He said in period of one year, GAMWORK will instruct the contractors to visit the building and look at any possible defect and address them.

Chairperson of the national select committee on enforcing of the implementation of government projects, Honorable Sulayman Saho said the purpose of the project is to ensure that taxpayers monies are put into good use and to see to it that the project that ratify in parliament are implemented to the best interest of the Gambians people and this is one of such projects.
