20g of cannabis sativa lands man in court

Mustapha Jarju who was found in his possession prohibited drugs has landed in court.

He appeared before the Kanifing Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Mam Samba Jallow last week Thursday.

Reading his statement of offence, Mustapha Jarju was arrested and charged for possession of prohibited drugs contrary to section 35(2)(a)of the drug law control Act ,2003.

According to the particular of the offense on or about 23rd day of November 2020 at Tallinding in the Kanifing Municipality of The Republic of The Gambia, he had in his possession 20g or cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug without a valid license and thereby committed an offence.

Mieanwhile, Ebrima Ceesay, prosecutor, represented IGP, while the accuse person was unrepresented and the case was transferred to the children’s court.

However, in same but different case, Mam Sait Jah was also appeared before the Kanifing Magistrate Court overseeing by Magistrate Mam Samba Jallow for assaulting causing actual bodily harm an offence contrary to section 228 of the criminal code laws of The Gambia.

According to the particular of offense which states that Mam Sait Jah on or about the 14th day of May 2021 at Dippakunda  and derive places in the Kanifing municipality of the Republic of The Gambia unlawfully assaulted one Alagie Ceesay by stabbing him multiple times occasioning him injuries on his body.

When the particular of offense was read to him the accused person, Mam Sait Jah pleaded not guilty of the offence. He was therefore granted bail in the sum of D50,000 with two Gambians sureties who will present their ID card and telephone number to the police station.

The case was adjourned till Thursday 1st June for hearing while Jann Jallow represented the IGP.
