U.S. Department of State Releases Religious Freedom Report on The Gambia

Secretary of State Antony Blinken released the 2020 International Religious Freedom Report, an annual publication documenting the status of religious freedom in every country.  The report covers government policies violating religious belief and practices of groups, religious denominations and individuals, and U.S. policies to promote religious freedom around the world. The U.S. Department of State submits the reports in accordance with the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.

This year’s report on The Gambia details a climate of broad religious tolerance and acceptance and constitutionally-provided freedom of religious choice.  The report includes information about the U.S. Embassy’s engagement with religious communities. The report notes that the country continues to build on its longstanding traditions of tolerance. As in past years, The Gambia has once again proven to be a leader in religious acceptance and freedom of religious choice.
