Media Migration Network Project has been launched in The Gambia byThe r0g Agency for open culture and critical transformation, a Berlin-based non-profit dedicated to partnering with local grassroots organizations and governments to support open knowledge.

The Migrant Media Network is a project funded by the German Foreign Office and it seeks to foster an informed decision-making process regarding migration to Europe by creating awareness on migration issues and social media sensitization.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sabell Blochl representative from German embassy said: “the project will also provide young Africans with reliable information and training on migration issues and social media to make informed decisions. “

He added that It will also promote youth entrepreneurship at home as a way to build economic and social resilience, encouraging youth to create their opportunities and work within their communities.

Pa Malick Ceesay, deputy executive director of National Youth Council, said their mandate is to boost young people and they will therefore give their full support to the project.

“Young people have role to play and migration is a fundamental human rights freedom but I encourage youth to travel using the legal way and not the illegal way,” he said.

He said the project will help providing young people with accurate information regarding migration.

The launching which was held at NaNA hall was followed by two-day training for 15 youth facilitated by Demba Kambi, country coordinator of migration media network.

“By the end of the training the 15 youth will equip themselves to organize community outreaches on irregular and regular migration.”
