“GRA Boss advocates respect for calls Authority”

The Commissioner General of Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has discussed the importance of respect for the authority in any institutions with his staff during the second tour of the GRA board of directors and top management field visit to West Coast Region last week.

The visit was part of GRA annual routine to meet the staff, interact with them and get first-hand information, as regard to challenges affecting their working condition.

The delegation comprised of the Deputy Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, board Chairperson of GRA, Lucy Faye Jagne, Commissioner of Customs, Deputy Commissioner General DCG, Director of Finance and Accounting, Director internal Audit, Director Technical Service, Director Legal at GRA and among other top senior Management.

Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe addressing the staff said leadership is created by God and is not an easy task.

He therefore encouraged the (GRA) junior staff to give maximum honour to their regional branch Managers, without respect for the leadership it will be difficult for them to achieve their goals.

CG Darboe equally advised his senior Managers, too, that leadership is by example, and as a leader you must accept to face critics, both positive and negative.

“But more importantly as Managers managing branch offices, you should be role model and show better example in term of code of dress, punctuality at work, approach, communication skills, professionalism and commitment toward work place. So that the junior staff can equally emulate your leadership step,” he advised

GRA, as a corporate institution, he “we must respect Authority and our responsibility entrusted to us as revenue collectors” Mr. Darboe emphasised.

The CG as well called on his managers to monitor their junior staff, code of dress and punctuality at work which is keys.

He used the opportunity of the tour to commend the staff for their commitment, dedication and professionalism in ensuring that GRA achieved its revenue target in 2020, which he said the achievement was not a child play considering the negative impact of coronavirus pandemic.

The Board of directors and top management of GRA also visited Wellingara tax office, Mandinary GNPC Depot, Airport Tax office, New Castle Depot Project and among other relevant places to the authority.

During the daylong visit GRA staffs raise some concern issues affecting their operation and called on the intervention of board of directors and top management of GRA for address, while their concern were noted and will be addressed soonest as promised by the Commissioner General of the institution.
