Member of NWC vows to fight FGM/GBV

Chairperson of the National Women Councillor has vowed to fight female genital mutilation and gender-based violation as well as ending child marriage in the country.

Isatou Dea Sawaneh was speaking at two-day training for councillors organized by Women’s Bureau through a funding from UNICEF in a bid to combat FGM, child marriage and teenage pregnancy in the country.

She said her organisation was established by an act of parliament to advice government on policies affecting women.

She noted that the women organization is important to the council and as the organization plays a role of national development and in attitude to society change.

Neneh Touray, tourist assistant director of information at Women’s Bureau said harped on the importance of the training.

Jainaba Jatta of Brikama North and Old Yundum echoed similar sentiments, while Sainey Cham from Women’s Bureau challenged them to always work as a team and as well assured her office continuous support and collaboration.
