Many Gambians have frowned at the lawmakers D54 million loan scheme has approved 11th December, 2020 by member of the National Assembly.

Lamin Darboe, a resident of Ltrikunda Sabiji described the lawmakers’ loan scheme as “selfish interest.”

“Our country is not that rich to give loan to the parliament members to build their homes because we have a fragile economy system which should be their first consideration. The D54.4million given to them could have better spend on so many unfinished projects in the country. People are suffering in the country and this greedy people want to copy ways of living of other countries’ NAMs,” he said

He added that “people in this country think that the rate of corruption in the previous regime is higher than the recent one but they should wake up from their dreams. These leaders are all corrupt they will rob all the money and live because their time is about to collapse and no one will vote for them”

Ebrahim Cessay, also slammed the scheme saying the members of parliament know their time in office is almost finish. He said he doubt whether those MPs taking the loan can pay it back at the right time.

“These NAMs lost all the respect citizens have for them because when they were asking for our votes, they said they want to make a difference in our lives but they approved that bill out of their own interest which is quite embarrassing and disappointing to everyone,” he said.

Sulayman Manneh said: “this was completely wrong because they have been already given lands and vehicles which is enough for them to sustain their lives.”

He went on saying that they don’t care about the development of this country instead they all fight for themselves. Beside, most of these NAM’s implemented limited projects compare to the promises they made.”
