Brusubi Rotary Club Donate Water Facility to Gunjur Darru

The Rotary Club of Brusubi in Collaboration with Maghull and Aughton rotary clubs in UK has donated water facility to Gunjur Darru Salam women project worth 280,000 dalasi.

The facility comprises of a borehole, storage tanks and water access points.  The cost was made possible by the generous donation of the Late Les Wilson, Past District Governor of Rotary District 1180.

“It is deeply satisfying to provide these facilities to community. A first step towards ensuring that we empower women in this area” says Fatou Gassama Club President for the year 2019-2020. “We will endeavour to seek more funding and if successful contribute towards the fencing of the garden. We hope that we can have national partners as we plan the next steps.”

“As many as 250 needy families benefit from the vegetables that are grown each year for the community. The fresh produce serves as a safety net for many families. With water, the women will be able to produce more vegetables and as a result, can serve the communities and themselves.”

“When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.  Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The Rotary Club off Brusubi is one of 5 such Clubs in The Gambia,” the clubs said.

“We look forward to you joining us and the community of Gunjur as Rotary Club of Brusubi association with Rotary Club of Maghull & Aughton Uk hands over the water facility at 3pm this Saturday,” the clubs added.
