ECOWAS, WAHO donate   medical items to MOH

The Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) through West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) last Thursday donated consignment of medical items to the Ministry of Health in a bid to join the crusade to fight against the deadly Coronavirus pandemic that posed threat to the whole world.

The donated medical items among other include 10,000 Tablets of Chloroquine phosphate 250mg, 1,000 tests kits, Azithromycin 250mg of 80 packs by  10×6 capsules – 4,800 capsules, 400 PPE Kits, 3,000Viral transport medium VTM. More drugs are underway to support the Ministry of Health.

Speaking on behalf of the Ecowas Commission and Director General of WAHO Claude Kondor political adviser to resident ECOWAS representative in The Gambia expressed appreciation over the presentation. He noted that the objective was to support ECOWAS Member states in a bid to fight against the pandemic in the continents.

He went on to expressed the fear about the current negative impact of the pandemic, which ECOWAS deemed it fitting to support its member States to combat the virus in our society.

According to him, he said at now there is no country in the world that has not experience the current pandemic and it is the responsibility of ECOWAS to ensure that citizen of ECOWAS   in all member States is safe and well secure.

Receiving the items on behalf of the minister of Health, Karamba Keita, Deputy Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Health who is also the focal person for WAHO in The Gambia thanked ECOWAS and WAHO for this magnificent gesture.

He said the items will go a long way in supporting the Ministry of Health in the fight against Covid-19.
