Students of UTG, Tertiary Institution slam authorities over lack of innovative academic system

Students of the University of The Gambia and other tertiary institutions have slammed authorities over lack of innovative academic system during the 21-break courtesy of coronavirus pandemic.

President Barrow last month banned public gatherings and closed schools and Universities as well made a proclamation on public health State of Emergency to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

However, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) launched a homeschooling project for students of lower grades to take lessons through radio and television stations across the country. According to the Ministry it is with the expressed aim to avoid loss in contact hours.

But dozens of students at the University of The Gambia however lashed out at the authorities of the topmost learning institution of the country for not coming up with innovative academic programmes in various specialisations.

Students who spoke on anonymous circumstance blamed the concerned authorities for not coming up with good initiatives that every student can benefit from as they stay at home for the period of this covid-19 break.

“We challenged the university authorities to learn best practices from other countries who are observing similar break but students of their universities are still learning irrespective of African poor technology challenge,” they said.
