MoH: Gambia Records One Probable Case of COVID-19

The Ministry of Health has disclosed that The Gambia has recorded a single probable case of coronavirus pandemic, a 47-year-old co-traveller of the Bangladeshi preacher who died of the COVID-19 last Sunday, a first coronavirus pandemic death records by the country.

Modou Njai, Director of Education and Health Promotion at the Ministry of Health during a press conference held at the Central Medicine Stores, Kotu said “the single recorded probable case of coronavirus pandemic in the country is a 47-year-old Bangladeshi national who shared the same flight with the second confirmed case of the killed Bangladeshi national by the virus.”

He said the patient has stated developed mild symptoms including manifestation signs of Covid-19. He added that the confirmation laboratory tests sample will be re-collected for further analysis at the Medical Research Council (MRC).

He said the local transmission of the virus is now becoming under rise following the confirmation of the three cases including one additional recorded probable case of the virus.

He noted that the country has not recorded any additional person put under quarantine as at the moment of the press briefing. He continued that also, no one has completed the ongoing quarantine period.

Meanwhile he said the completed follow ups still remain 310 and contact trace amounted to 73, total tests conducted are 52, positive test result stands at 3, negative tests still at 47 and inconclusive taste result stands at a single figure.
