Vendors at Brufut market have launched a notax payment strike as they accused Brikama Area Council of neglecting the market on development for decades.

The vendors said they have been seeking help of development from Brikama Area Council but that the council turned a blind eye to their demand. They reason of paying the dues to the council is to solve the problem in the market.

In a voice exclusive interview, Aja Njama Manneh  a vendors said the market has been neglected for so long by the council, as they have contributed enough  to maintain the market adding that they cannot continue paying their children school fees the same time contributing to maintain this market.

“We have been paying our dues for quite a long time now yet still things are getting worst every day and we want our market to be renovated as it is the only place we depend on to feed our family,” she added.

According to her, it is almost three years when “we refused to pay our taxes due to the disappointment we had from the Brikama area council as previous years we were paying our dues.”

Sainey Daffeh a fish seller lamented about the challenges they face in at the market especially during rainy season.
