Ebrima Sorriba Secretary General of 5years for peace building, disclosed that they will demonstrate to show solidarity to the Gambian constitution noting that, they will ensure that peace and stability prevail during the procession.
He made this remarked in an exclusive interview with the voice, 2nd of December 2019.
He pointed out that, the demonstration will symbolise peace and stability that they are going to advocate for.
“Our demonstration, we will call out our people from to the kombo’s from the seven administrative region, and coverage to a particular place which will be later disclose to the press”. He said.
According to him, the solidarity to the 5years will call on the president, coalition, politicians and other parties to respect the 5years constitutional outline mandate.
He alluded that, 5years movement is a civil society organisation which is officially registered at the AG chamber and they have large followers in the country.
He mentioned that, they are also able to secure international chapters across America, Europe, Asia and their source of founding is coming from membership contribution which is D100 and those abroad D200 plus selling T-shirt D200 and the cap D50.
He explained that, if the 3years movement are given the right to demonstrate, they have the constitutional right to demonstrate. A freedom of assembly is guarantee to Gambian citizens by the 1990 constitution.
He Added that, they should make sure that, they go by their words, because they aren’t saying the same thing with the president. ‘’this country is govern by the law and it is a cooperate responsibility for every citizen to upload the law to the ladder to ensure peace and stability which the country is known for.’’ He said.
‘’when the demonstration turn out violence, it is going to be the responsibility for every Gambian to make sure that we try to bring sanity we expect Gambian people to behave and we expect for them to hear the advice of the 5years peace building they should go back to their senses and sizz fair we don’t expect the securities to sit back then they would have fail their existence’’.
He Noted that, no party have the right to put the law into their hands and try to defuse any violence or anything to try to protect by means of counter activity like the APRC claim.
Mr Sorriba further said, nobody should be surprise with the statement made by the president saying that he is not going to step down. Adding that because if he choose to serve the term for 5years that has been constitutional scansion is his right.
He Lamented that, the president is definitely taking his owns actually given by the constitution to serve a term of 5years.
