1000 boys get free circumcision at the Brikama Health Centre

 A Turkish NGO Called Diversity Humanitarian Relief Foundation provided free circumcision to 1000 boys at the Brikama Health Centre. The event which took three days between 19-21 February, 2019 attracted beneficiaries from Brikama and other surrounding villages.

The Diversity Humanitarian Relief Foundation is known for providing humanitarian assistance to needy people in different part of the World particularly in Africa.

Ibrahim Gurkan, the representative of the NGO in the Gambia said that the event was organized to assist families that cannot afford safe circumcision in the Gambia. He also stated that “Circumcision using local methods is very painful and unhealthy and sometimes can pose serious health risks to children in the future,”

Male circumcision is considered as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package, Research conducted by health experts in three African countries revealed that male circumcision reduces the risk of heterosexually acquired HIV infection in men by approximately 60%.
