Baboucarr Jeng, the former Regimental Sergeant Major of Gambia National Army said that he was brutalized by 1994 Coupist during his detention at Mile Two Prison.

Jeng continued his testimonies before the Truth Commission, adding that he was brutalized by all the Junta except Yahya Jammeh.

“Edward Singhateh came from the back and gave me a very hash stamp on my back, I fell down and I nearly collapsed. I was then helpless but still received rough kicking from him and his brother Peter Singhateh and I believed Yankuba Touray and Batch Samba Jallow were doing the kicking, thinking that I was trying to get an arm,” he said.

Mr. Jeng added that upon the arrival of the Junta men at Mile Two, the men shouted his name and came to his cell and handcuffed him and took him out.

He also added that he was also pointed with guns by three soldiers ordered by the Junta men, stating that one of the soldiers mistakenly fired gun over his head.

He further stated that at Mile Two, their cells were invested with rats and that they were not visited from September 6 to October 1994, adding that food was not enough and that it was very bad for consumption.

“None of his family members were allowed to visit at the time. He came to know that Yankuba Touray denied his family from seeing him,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also stated that one of the most painful issues he went throughout his arrest was, his mother being insulted by Yankuba Touray.

He then said that: “Yankuba Touray insulted his mum, who he found more painful from Yankuba Touray than whatever pain he went through that night. For Yankuba Touray to stand in front of him and insulted his mum. He found it more painful than what he has gone through.”
