FTS Trains Farmers on vegetable Processing, Preservation

Food Technology Services under the department of Agriculture has trained farmers on vegetable processing and preservation.

Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change Project funded the training, was meant to ensure skills to boost vegetable production and value addition.

The training also aimed to equip farmers with skills and knowledge on fruit and vegetables processing and preservation technique to minimize post-harvest losses and to add value to farm produce, increase income and food and nutrition security.

Seedy Fofana, director of Food Technology Services said 115 farmers were trained at various training sites within the AACCP intervention sites.

He also expressed satisfaction on high level of participation of farmers within the intervention of AACCP villages to mitigate effects of climate change to contribute to food security.

Habibatu Sarr, a lead trainer described the training as timely, noting that it came at a time when vegetable farmers are preparing for vegetable production.

According t him, such training would enhance and increase farmer’s capacity on value addition of tomato and pepper in to tomato jam and pepper sauce.

She assured their commitment to supporting farmers to adoption technique on cereals, fruits and vegetables to reduce post-harvest loss.

Fatou Kanyi of Mandori and Fabala Touray of Kinteh Kunda Janneh Ya thank FTS and AACCP for building their capacity on food preservation techniques.
