Gambia Observes International Sight day

 

The Gambia has celebrated World sight day in a match pass held under the theme: “Eye care everywhere”, which is observe in every second Thursday of October yearly

Sarjo Kanyi, a   program manager for the national eye care program at the Ministry of Health said the Gambia has registered success in eye care.

“Gambia has register a lot of success in the area of eye care saying the services are affordable and are easily accessed by people as people do not have to walk a distance of more than 25km to access an eye care provider,” he said.

He urged Gambians to go for regular checkups at the hospitals, adding that they should to make good use of the services.

He added: “As non communicable disease such as glaucoma are on the increase, he also urged Gambians to desist from using the use of harmful traditional eye medications and make good uses of the services available.”

He continued: “As part of the celebrations, free eye screening will be conducted in the prisons, the SOS children’s village and the school for children with learning difficulties in Sinchu Alagie.:”
