The Gambia U-20 national team, the Young Scorpions, suffered a 3-1 defeat to neighbouring Senegal in an international friendly as they continue preparations for the upcoming WAFU-A U-20 qualifiers in Bamako, Mali.

The Young Scorpions endured a difficult first half, conceding twice as Senegal capitalised on its opportunities and maintained pressure on the Gambian side.

The Gambians returned from the break with greater attacking intent and showed signs of improvement as they sought to reduce the deficit.

Their efforts paid off when Sheriff Bah combined with Francis Gomez to score The Gambia’s only goal of the match, reducing Senegal’s lead to 3-1.

The Young Scorpions continued to push forward in search of another goal that could have revived their comeback hopes, but Senegal remained disciplined and held on to its advantage until the final whistle.

Despite the defeat, the friendly provided valuable match experience for The Gambia as coach Abdoulie Bojang continues to fine-tune his squad ahead of the WAFU-A U-20 qualifying tournament in Mali.
