The Gambia’s U-20 national team, the Young Scorpions, will begin preparations for the WAFU-A U-20 Qualifying Tournament scheduled for Mali in October.

Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang and his technical staff have selected an initial group of 30 players for the first phase of screening, with their respective clubs formally notified of the selections.

The first screening session is scheduled for Monday, 31 August 2026, and will initially focus on players competing in the Second Division League.

The technical team is expected to conduct further screening exercises in subsequent phases to give more players an opportunity to compete for places in the final squad.

The players will be assessed on their technical ability, fitness, discipline and suitability for international competition as the coaching staff seeks to assemble a competitive team.

The WAFU-A U-20 Qualifying Tournament is scheduled to take place in Mali from 6 to 26 October 2026.

The Young Scorpions will use the coming weeks to build team cohesion, identify the best available talent and prepare for the regional competition.
