The Brikama Magistrates’ Court Tuesday remanded a young man, Lamin Jammeh at Mile Two Central Prison following his appearance before Magistrate K.B. Sambou charged with three counts of possession of prohibited drugs.
Jammeh was charged under the Drug Control Act 2003 and the Drug Control (Amendment) Act 2014. On the first count, he was charged with possession of prohibited drugs contrary to Section 35(2)(a) of the Drug Control (Amendment) Act 2014.
The particulars of the offence alleged that Jammeh on or about 28th January 2026, at Busumbala in the West Coast Region, was found in possession of 18 grammes of Cannabis Sativa, a prohibited drug.
For the second count, Jammeh was charged under the same section of the Drug Control (Amendment) Act 2014. The prosecution alleged that he was found in possession of 548 milligrammes of Cannabis Skunk at Busumbala on the same date.
The third count charged Jammeh with possession of prohibited drugs contrary to Section 35(1)(a) of the Drug Control Act 2003.
The particulars alleged that he was found in possession of 18 pills of ecstasy at Busumbala on or about 28 January 2026. The charges were read to Jammeh in English and interpreted into Mandinka. He denied all three charges.
Prosecuting officer for the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), L.K. Bojang, opposed the granting bail, telling the court that the accused had previously failed to report while on police bail.
The prosecution subsequently applied for an adjournment to call its first prosecution witness. Magistrate Sambou adjourned the case to 13th October 2026. Jammeh was remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison pending the next hearing.
