A young man on Thursday pleaded guilty to pollution-related offence before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court after being accused of discharging waste into the environment at Kabafita Forest in the West Coast Region.
Sulayman Drammeh appeared before Magistrate Kanjura B. Sambou and was charged with an offence relating to pollution, contrary to Section 57(1)(a) of the National Environment Management Act, 1994.
Sergeant 4422 MJ Sallah appeared for the Inspector General of Police (IGP), while Drammeh appeared without legal representation.
According to the particulars of the charge, Drammeh allegedly discharged waste into the environment at Kabafita Forest in Kombo Central District on or about 6 July 2026 without complying with prescribed regulations.
The charge was read to Drammeh in English and interpreted into Mandinka, a language he understood, after which he pleaded guilty.
Following the plea, Sergeant Sallah applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to present the facts of the case.
The court adjourned the matter to 29th September 2026 for the prosecution to present the facts.
Meanwhile, Drammeh was granted bail in the sum of D100,000 with one Gambian surety.
The surety is required to deposit a valid Gambian identification card or passport with the Registrar of the Court and depose to means.
The case will resume on 29th September, when the prosecution is expected to present the facts upon which the charge is based.
