The Secretary-General of the UNITE Movement for Change, Alagie Dembo Kanteh Wednesday announced the party’s readiness to contest the presidential polls, having registered as a political party.

He says the party is set to contest The Gambia’s forthcoming presidential election after receiving official registration as a political party from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Speaking following the party’s registration, Kanteh described the approval as the formal recognition the movement had been waiting, saying UNITE had now become a legally-recognized political party within the country’s political system.

He said the party was established with the objective of seeking political power through democratic means and forming a government committed to competence, integrity and public service.

According to Kanteh, the party’s registration marked a significant milestone in achieving that objective and paved the way for its participation in the forthcoming presidential election.

He thanked party members, supporters and well-wishers for their commitment and determination, describing the registration as a collective achievement.

Kanteh also appealed to Gambians at home and abroad to support the party’s efforts, saying national development required the participation of all citizens.

Addressing opposition political parties and movements, he called for greater cooperation, stating that nation-building required political actors to put aside differences and work together in the national interest.

He said UNITE looked forward to collaborating with other political stakeholders and would soon unveil its policy platform, which he said would focus on progress, accountability and prosperity.

Kanteh concluded by thanking the party’s supporters for their continued commitment, saying the movement was ready to begin preparations for the presidential election following its official registration.
