Three Gambians have been arraigned before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and theft.
Babucarr Camara, Sulayman Faye and Muhammed Jeng appeared before Magistrate Darboe on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, and were jointly charged with three counts.
The prosecution, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), was led by Sgt. 5426 M. Badjie, while the three accused persons appeared without legal representation.
On count one, the accused were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, contrary to Section 341 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
The particulars of the offence allege that on or about Sept. 16, 2026, at Gunjur in the West Coast Region, the three accused conspired among themselves to commit a felony, namely stealing.
On count two, they were jointly charged with theft, contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
According to the particulars of the offence, the accused allegedly jointly stole a bag containing CFA 1 million, equivalent to D128,370, and D20,000 in cash, said to be the property of Babucarr Gaye.
The charges were read and explained to the accused, who each pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Sgt. Badjie applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call its first witness and did not object to bail.
Magistrate Darboe subsequently granted each accused bail in the sum of D150,000, with two Gambian sureties.
The sureties are required to deposit valid Gambian national identity cards or passports with the court registrar.
The case was adjourned to Oct. 2, 2026, for hearing.
