The Gambian community in Texas has paid tribute to late Gambian basketball legend Pa Modou Sarr at a gathering celebrating his life and contribution to the sport.

The event brought together Gambians, basketball players, friends, families and members of the wider community to honour Sarr and reflect on his contribution to Gambian basketball.

Sarr was remembered for his talent on the basketball court and for the inspiration he provided to players and young people who shared his passion for the sport.

As part of the tribute, basketball players took to the court in his honour, turning the sporting venue into a place of remembrance and celebration.

Participants said the gathering demonstrated the enduring impact of Sarr’s contribution to basketball and the strong bonds within the Gambian community in the diaspora.

The event also provided an opportunity for Gambians in Texas to celebrate the life of one of their own and preserve his memory among younger generations.

Organisers expressed appreciation to the players, families, friends and community members who attended and supported the tribute.

The gathering concluded with renewed calls to preserve Sarr’s legacy and recognise his contribution to the development and promotion of basketball in The Gambia.

Although he is no longer on the court, his contribution to Gambian basketball continues to be remembered by those who knew him and followed his career.
