Sifoe United have secured their place in the West Coast Regional Third Division League for another season after defeating Menmar Banjul United 1-0 in a tense relegation playoff encounter played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium on Tuesday.

A lone goal from Pabi Darboe was enough to separate the two sides in a tightly contested match, ensuring Sifoe United avoided relegation.

Both teams displayed determination and fighting spirit as they battled for survival, with Menmar Banjul United, also known as the Capital Boys, pushing for a positive result throughout the encounter.

Sifoe United, however, remained disciplined at the back after taking the lead, frustrating their opponents with a resolute defensive performance.

The match took a dramatic turn late in the game when Sifoe United goalkeeper Modou Lamin Sonko was sent off, leaving his team to defend with 10 players.

Menmar Banjul United intensified their search for an equaliser in the closing stages and created several opportunities, but Sifoe United held on to secure a narrow victory and preserve their Third Division status.

The result means Sifoe United will continue their campaign in the West Coast Regional Third Division League in the coming season, while Menmar Banjul United’s relegation fate was confirmed.
