Seven young Gambian athletes will represent the country in five sporting disciplines at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal from Oct. 31 to Nov. 13.
The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has confirmed the seven-member team as preparations intensify for the continental sporting event, which will bring together young athletes from across the world.
The delegation comprises athletes competing in judo, swimming, athletics, beach volleyball and boxing.
In judo, Alima will represent The Gambia, while Fatou will compete in swimming.
Athletics will see Haddy and Mustapha compete against some of Africa’s most promising young athletes.
Kaddy and Fatima will form The Gambia’s beach volleyball team, while Alieu will compete in boxing.
The Dakar Youth Olympic Games will provide the Gambian athletes with an opportunity to gain valuable experience at a major international competition and test themselves against some of the world’s emerging sporting talents.
Beyond the pursuit of medals, the Games are expected to expose the young athletes to high-level competition and provide opportunities for learning and further development.
For The Gambia, the participation of athletes from five disciplines also reflects efforts to broaden the country’s sporting development and create opportunities for young talent.
With preparations continuing ahead of the Games, the seven athletes are expected to focus on their final training programmes as they prepare to represent the country in Senegal.
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will be held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 13, bringing together young athletes in a celebration of sport, talent and youth development.
