The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has reaffirmed its commitment to the UDP-led Gambia First Coalition ahead of the December 5th, presidential election.
Kebba Nanko, the party’s Director of Policy, Implementation, Media and Communications, announced that the PPP National Executive Committee had unanimously approved and ratified the coalition agreement, authorizing the party to formally proceed with the alliance.
Addressing supporters, Nanko says the decision reflects the PPP’s determination to uphold its founding principles while adapting to contemporary political realities.
“Honoring our history does not mean living in the past. It means carrying forward the principles, democratic traditions, discipline, national vision and values that defined the PPP while preparing the party for the realities and opportunities of the 21st century,” he said.
He added that the PPP has formally entered the coalition agreement and is committed to respecting and upholding all its provisions.
Nanko further disclosed that the party was ready to move from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) stage to the formal signing of the coalition agreement at the earliest opportunity.
Invoking Article 2.3 of the Gambia First Coalition MoU, PPP Secretary-General and Party Leader Ousman Madikay Faal formally declared the party’s endorsement of UDP leader Lawyer Ousainou ANM Darboe as the coalition’s presidential candidate.
According to Nanko, the endorsement follows the National Executive Committee’s approval and ratification of the coalition arrangement.
The PPP also called on its members nationwide to fully support the alliance by campaigning for the coalition’s candidate, mobilizing voters and actively participating in coalition activities across their respective communities and regions.
