Modou Lamin Sima, a politician has launched the Alliance for Progressive Citizens (APC) Movement as he pledged to modernize The Gambia’s productive sector to revive the country’s economic stability, if voted into office.
Reacting to questions from journalists on how he intends to boost the employability of young Gambians if elected to power. Mr. Sima said the APC plans to create capital, develop agriculture, and industrialized factory production to create employment for the youth.
“It is shameful for the Gambia to be importing rice when we have fertile lands to feed ourselves. Our productive sector is dying and has stranded citizens without jobs. With the improvement of technology, we could have improved our production capacity. What has changed? But we are sending our able-bodied men and women to Europe to help them develop their industries and economy while we continue to struggle with ours,” he observed.
The leader of the APC highlighted that The Gambia was one of the countries with a single type of banking system, leaving out key banking forms that can rapidly support development and economic growth.
He mentioned that the absence of development, agriculture, investment, and traders’ banks has left local and private investors helpless and discouraged in their quest to industrialize the productive sector to create jobs for citizens that will in turn use and reinvest their income in the country to boost creation of capital for development.
“Gambia’s problem to growth is attributed to lack of access to capital. If there is no capital. There cannot be development. This is a basic economic principle,” claimed Mr. Sima.
Modou Lamin Sima added that various forms of banking systems to support development and economic growth are considered macro-economic projects with influential capacities for capital investment, development, and job creation. He added that APC’s concentration must be based in these areas to develop the country and boost citizens’ purchasing power and eventually lifting them out of poverty.
