The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has commenced a nationwide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles operating without properly displayed registration number plates.
The operation, launched on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, by the Mobile Traffic Unit, follows earlier public notices informing motorists that newly printed vehicle number plates were available for collection.
According to the GPF, vehicle owners and drivers were given more than one month to collect and display their registration plates before the commencement of the enforcement exercise.
The Police have reminded motorists to ensure that their vehicles carry the required number plates in accordance with traffic regulations, warning that failure to comply will attract appropriate penalties.
The GPF urged drivers and vehicle owners to cooperate with traffic officers and take the necessary steps to avoid disruptions during the exercise.
The enforcement campaign, according to the police, forms part of efforts to strengthen compliance with road traffic laws and improve the identification of vehicles operating on public roads.
