The National Roads Authority (NRA)’s technical team on Wednesday inspected the EPC Lot 4 Road Project in the West Coast Region as part of its on-going nationwide tour to monitor road construction projects and assess on-site progress.

The project is a major component of The Gambia’s western transport network and involves the construction of five roads with a total length of about 33.7 kilometres. SOMAGEC is executing the works, while GAMECS is serving as the supervising consultant.

During the inspection, the team observed substantial progress across the various project locations. On the Kalagi–Bondali Road, 8 kilometres have already been sealed, with the remaining 2 kilometres still under construction. The Jorem Nema Kunda–Jorem Bunda Kunda Road is 99 percent complete, with only road signs and markings left to be installed.

Sealing works are currently underway on the Sangajor–Dasilami Road following the completion of priming activities, while the Kanfenda–Mandina Road has reached the priming stage. On the Giboro–Sohm Road, the base course has been completed, and concrete drainage works are continuing.

Overall, the EPC Lot 4 Project has achieved 85 percent physical completion.

Speaking during the visit, SOMAGEC Project Manager, Momodou Dumbuya, said the contractor has carried out extensive drainage improvement works ahead of the rainy season. These measures include clearing water channels and constructing culverts and Irish crossings to reduce the risk of flooding. He added that a response team will be stationed in Kalagi to address any flooding emergencies that may arise during the rainy season.

The NRA reaffirmed its commitment to closely supervising the project to ensure high-quality delivery, timely completion, and improved road connectivity for communities throughout the West Coast Region.
