Gambian forward Mustapha Jah scored his first European competition goal for Floriana FC as the Maltese champions defeated Shamrock Rovers of Ireland 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League first qualifying round tie on Tuesday.
Jah scored Floriana’s second goal in the 79th minute, converting a well-worked attacking move after receiving an assist from Fede Varela to give the hosts a comfortable advantage.
The Gambian attacker delivered an impressive performance before being substituted later in the match. He was also shown a yellow card during the encounter.
Floriana produced a disciplined display to secure a valuable home victory and take a two-goal advantage into the return leg.
The goal marked Jah’s first strike in UEFA Champions League qualifying and added another achievement to his growing football career.
The second leg of the tie will be played next week, with Floriana seeking to complete the job and secure progression to the next round of the competition.
