The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has remanded a Fajara resident, Pap Gaye, at Mile II Central Prisons over an alleged theft of two aluminium door frames.
Magistrate Sallah M’bai ordered the remand on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, after Gaye was charged with general punishment for theft, contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, opted to speak in Wolof when the charge was read to him.
According to the particulars of the offence, Gaye allegedly stole two aluminium door frames of unknown value belonging to Jenung Suso on or about 27 July 2026 at Fajara South in the Kanifing Municipality, within the jurisdiction of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
Gaye pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following the plea, prosecution officers Inspector C.B. Jallow and E.L. Mendy, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), applied for an adjournment to allow the prosecution to present a witness before the court.
The magistrate granted the application, stating that the prosecution needed to produce a witness to substantiate the allegations against the accused.
The court granted Gaye bail in the sum of D30,000 with a Gambian surety who must possess a valid national identity card or passport.
However, the accused was ordered to remain at Mile II Central Prisons pending the next court appearance.
The case has been adjourned to 20 August 2026 for the prosecution to begin presenting its witness.
