Lincoln University College (LUC) in Malaysia has appointed a Ghanaian naturopath, legal scholar and health policy advocate Prof. Raphael Nyarkotey Obu as Visiting Professor and Director of African Programmes in Naturopathy, Traditional and Complementary Medicine.
The appointment, dated 29 July 2026, recognises Prof. Nyarkotey’s contributions to naturopathic medicine, traditional healthcare, legal scholarship and academic leadership in Africa.
According to the university, the appointment places Prof. Nyarkotey on its academic staff as a part-time, non-tenure-track faculty member with responsibilities that include teaching, postgraduate research supervision, academic mentorship, research collaboration and international programme development.
In its appointment letter, Lincoln University College commended the Ghanaian academic for his role in advancing naturopathy and traditional medicine across Africa and acknowledged his scholarly publications and international academic contributions.
The university also noted his inclusion in the AD Scientific Index 2025 among the leading researchers in naturopathy in Ghana and Africa.
As Director of African Programmes, Prof. Nyarkotey will lead the university’s engagement with African institutions by promoting partnerships with universities, ministries of health, regulatory agencies and professional bodies.
His responsibilities will also include supporting academic exchanges, curriculum development and collaborative research initiatives between Malaysia and African countries.
Commenting on the appointment, Prof. Nyarkotey said it presents an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation in education and healthcare.
“Africa possesses a rich heritage of traditional medicine and naturopathy. Through this appointment, I look forward to strengthening academic partnerships, promoting evidence-based practice and expanding educational opportunities for African students and practitioners,” he said.
Lincoln University College, based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, has established international academic partnerships through research collaborations and educational exchange programmes.
The university said the appointment is expected to strengthen postgraduate education, faculty exchanges and institutional collaboration between Lincoln University College and higher education institutions across Africa.
