Newly elected Gambia Football Federation (GFF) President Kemo Ceesay is expected to formally assume office on Wednesday, 2 September, following his election at the federation’s recent Elective Congress.

Ceesay was elected president of the GFF after defeating his challengers at the elective congress, succeeding the previous administration.

His assumption of office is expected to usher in a new phase in the administration of Gambian football, with stakeholders looking to the new leadership to promote greater openness, unity and inclusion.

Among the expectations surrounding the new administration is improved engagement between the federation and the wider football community, including greater space for supporters and stakeholders to express their views and offer constructive criticism.

There have also been expectations that individuals previously blocked from the GFF’s official social media platforms could be given access again, although this remains subject to decisions by the new administration.

Ceesay’s assumption of office will pave the way for the implementation of his priorities and election commitments as he begins his mandate.

Attention will now focus on the composition of his administration and the measures it will take to strengthen football governance, unite stakeholders and further develop the sport in The Gambia.
