Newly elected Gambia Football Federation (GFF) President Kemo Ceesay has attended his first WAFU-A engagement since assuming office, joining regional football leaders at the sub-regional body’s General Assembly and Elective Congress in Kololi on Sunday.
Ceesay, accompanied by GFF Secretary-General Lamin M. Jassey, participated in the 15th WAFU-A General Assembly and Elective Congress held at the African Princess Hotel.
The congress brought together representatives of WAFU-A member associations to deliberate on football development, challenges and opportunities in the sub-region, as well as elect a new leadership team.
The meeting also marked the end of the tenure of outgoing WAFU-A President Lamin Kaba Bajo.
Cabo Verde Football Association President Mário Semedo was elected the new WAFU-A President, while Sierra Leone’s Babadi Kamara and Mali’s Mahazou Baba Cissé were elected First and Second Vice Presidents respectively.
Ceesay’s participation in the congress came only days after his election as GFF President, providing him with his first opportunity to engage with regional football administrators in his new capacity.
His attendance is expected to reinforce The Gambia’s participation in WAFU-A activities as the new GFF administration seeks to strengthen the country’s role in regional football development.
The congress ushers in a new leadership at WAFU-A under Semedo, with member associations expected to continue working together to promote football development and cooperation across the sub-region.
