Newly elected President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Kemo Ceesay, has officially assumed leadership of the federation, taking over from Lamin Kaba Bajo after a 12-year tenure.
Ceesay formally took charge during a handover ceremony held Thursday at the GFF Football House, accompanied by members of his newly elected Executive Committee and a member of the coaching team.
GFF Secretary-General Lamin M. Jassey welcomed the new administration and commended the Electoral Committee, football stakeholders, the media and partners for contributing to what he described as a democratic and peaceful transition.
He reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to supporting the new leadership in its efforts to advance football development across The Gambia.
Outgoing President Bajo described the handover as a historic occasion and thanked stakeholders for their support during his 12 years at the helm of the federation.
He highlighted several achievements of his administration, including the establishment of key legal frameworks such as presidential term limits.
Bajo also commended the Electoral Committee for conducting what he described as fair, transparent and peaceful elections.
He called on football stakeholders and the Gambian public to support the new administration, stressing that the success of Ceesay and his team would ultimately be the success of Gambian football.
In his acceptance remarks, Ceesay formally assumed responsibility for the affairs of the GFF and pledged his commitment to the continued development and progress of football in The Gambia.
As a gesture of appreciation, Ceesay presented Bajo with a certificate of merit, while the GFF Secretariat also presented the outgoing president with a similar recognition through the Secretary-General.
