Former Supreme Court of The Gambia Judge, Justice Awa Bah has been sworn in as a judge of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice for the period 2026–2030 tenure.
Justice Bah was officially sworn in on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, joining other newly appointed judges to serve on the regional court.
Her appointment gives The Gambia representation on the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice and marks another significant step in her judicial career after several years serving in senior positions within the Gambian judiciary.
Justice Bah previously served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of The Gambia. She was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Adama Barrow, with her appointment taking effect on August 1, 2020. She was subsequently sworn in on October 8, 2020.
Before her elevation to the Supreme Court, Justice Bah served as President of the Gambia Court of Appeal, a position she assumed in November 2017.
She has also played a role in judicial training in The Gambia, having led the Judicial Training Institute and contributed to the development of legal and judicial education in the country.
Her appointment to the regional court followed statutory appointments endorsed by the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State for community institutions.
Justice Bah is among the newly appointed judges representing several ECOWAS member states, including The Gambia, Liberia, Benin, Nigeria and Togo.
She now begins a four-year tenure at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, where she will serve alongside other judges in the regional judicial institution.
