Gambian sprinter Isatou Sey has launched the Isatou Sey Foundation, an initiative aimed at supporting and recognising young school-going athletes with potential in athletics.
The foundation was launched on Saturday at a ceremony attended by school athletes, sports officials, personalities and other members of the sporting community.
Sey, popularly known as “Cheetah” because of her speed on the track, said the initiative was intended to give back to athletics and encourage young athletes to pursue their sporting ambitions while maintaining their education.
The launch featured the recognition and award of 12 outstanding school athletes who distinguished themselves at the 2026 National Inter-Schools Athletics Championship.
The initiative seeks to encourage young athletes to continue developing their sporting abilities while balancing their athletic careers with their education.
Sey, who is among The Gambia’s recognised sprinting talents, said her experience in athletics had motivated her to contribute to the development of the sport at grassroots level.
The foundation is expected to provide a platform for recognising emerging athletes and encouraging greater participation in athletics among young people.
The launch also highlighted the role of athletes and sports stakeholders in supporting the development of young talent and creating opportunities for school athletes to progress in their sporting careers.
