Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr Ismaila Ceesay, has urged young people to remain disciplined and focused, saying discipline is the foundation of success in sports and other areas of life.
Dr Ceesay made the remarks during an interview conducted at the closing ceremony of the Under-15 youth football tournament he sponsored in Brikama.
He called on young people to promote peace, respect the law and remain dedicated to their ambitions, stressing that talent alone is not enough to guarantee a successful career.
“No matter how talented you are in football, any other sport or music, if you are not disciplined, your talent is worthless and your career will be very short,” he said.
The minister said young people should respect elders and authority, work hard and stay committed to their goals, adding that discipline combined with talent creates opportunities for lasting success.
Dr Ceesay, who also leads the Citizens’ Alliance (CA), says the government is investing in education, sports, health and road infrastructure to improve opportunities for young Gambians.
He highlighted ongoing investments in community sports facilities, including the KG5 Mini Stadium in Banjul and the Late OJ Mini Stadium in Serekunda Central, adding that plans are underway to develop modern sports infrastructure in Lamin and Brikama.
