The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has commenced Revising Court hearings across The Gambia to determine objections arising from the 2026 supplementary voter registration exercise.
In a statement issued on Aug. 31, the IEC said magistrates appointed by the Office of the Chief Justice had begun hearing cases involving challenges to the registration of individuals during the supplementary voter registration exercise.
The hearings form part of the process of resolving disputes over the voter register before the electoral roll is finalized ahead of the 2026 elections.
The IEC said the names of individuals who filed objections, as well as those whose registrations have been challenged, have been published at its offices.
The hearings are being conducted at magistrates’ courts across the country, with individual magistrates determining the dates for cases under their respective jurisdictions.
The designated courts are the Kanifing and Bundung Magistrate Courts, Brikama Magistrate Court, Mansakonko Magistrate Court, Kerewan and Farafenni Magistrate Courts, Janjanbureh, Kuntaur and Kaur Magistrate Courts, and Basse Magistrate Court.
According to the IEC, the proceedings are expected to be completed within 60 days of their commencement.
Revising Courts provide a formal mechanism for adjudicating objections to the inclusion of individuals on the voter register, allowing the parties involved to present their cases before a magistrate.
The hearings come as the IEC continues preparations for the 2026 electoral cycle amid increased scrutiny of the accuracy and integrity of the voter register.
“The Commission assures the general public and all stakeholders in the electoral process of its determination to enhance the integrity and credibility of the electoral process,” the IEC said.
