The Executive, Legislature and Judiciary will later this month hold Gambia’s first-ever Tripartite Conference on the Commonwealth (Latimer House) Principles, parliamentary sources disclosed Monday.

The move is aimed at strengthening cooperation among the country’s three arms of government.

The three-day conference is scheduled for 22 to 24 July 2026 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo under the theme: “Upholding the Rule of Law and Democratic Balance: A Tripartite Engagement on the Latimer House Principles in The Gambia.”

According to the National Assembly, the forum will provide a platform for representatives of the three arms of government to discuss the application of the Commonwealth Latimer House Principles, which set standards for the separation of powers and institutional relations.

The conference is expected to develop a National Action Plan on the Latimer House Principles (2026–2029) to guide implementation, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a framework for regular engagement among the President, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chief Justice.

The National Assembly says the initiative marks a significant step towards reinforcing the rule of law, promoting democratic governance and enhancing institutional cooperation in The Gambia.
