The Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs, under the leadership of Minister Hamat N.K. Bah, has inaugurated a high-level, multi-sectoral National Organising Committee to coordinate the revival of the Mansabengwo cultural event.
The inauguration ceremony was held in Banjul on Monday, September 28, 2026.
The newly inaugurated committee has been tasked with spearheading the planning, coordination and execution of the 2026 Mansabengwo cultural event, a major national showcase being organised by the Government of The Gambia.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hamat N.K. Bah said the Mansabengwo initiative is designed to showcase The Gambia’s rich cultural heritage, traditional governance structures and national unity.
He described the committee’s assignment as a critical national responsibility requiring strong collaboration among government institutions and other stakeholders.
Minister Bah said the initiative brings together key stakeholders, including the Office of the President, security agencies and regional authorities, to collectively ensure the successful organisation of the event.
He further disclosed that the country’s security and intelligence agencies would play an active role in the preparations, with the objective of ensuring that the event is smoothly coordinated and incident-free.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Dembo Samateh, Deputy Governor of the North Bank Region, who represented the Paramount Chief of The Gambia, highlighted the significance of reviving the Mansabengwo association.
According to Mr Samateh, the association serves as a platform for promoting peace, culture and togetherness among Gambians.
He said the Mansabengwo initiative would also contribute to strengthening cultural and traditional development while promoting peace, unity and social cohesion across the country.
The revival of the association is expected to bring together traditional authorities, communities and other stakeholders in a national cultural platform aimed at celebrating The Gambia’s heritage and strengthening bonds among its people.
