Gibrel Camara has been remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison after appearing before Magistrate K.B. Sambou of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on a charge of alleged possession of prohibited drugs.
Camara is charged with possession of prohibited drugs, contrary to Section 35(2)(a) of the Drug Control (Amendment) Act 2014.
According to the particulars of the offence, Camara allegedly had 74 grammes of cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug, in his possession on or about 4 September 2026 at Mandinaba Village in the West Coast Region.
The charge sheet was read to Camara in English and interpreted into Mandinka, the language he elected to speak. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following the plea, the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), prosecuting officer applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call its first witness.
The court adjourned the case to 5 November 2026 for the hearing to commence.
Camara was granted bail in the sum of D100,000, with one Gambian surety who is required to deposit a valid passport or national identity card with the court registrar and depose to means.
However, Camara was unable to fulfil the bail conditions and was subsequently remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison pending the next hearing.
